The new generation Audi A8, due to go on sale in the later half of the year, will provide so-called ‘level three’ autonomous driving capability, writes Brian Byrne.
This means that, where legally permitted, the driver will be able to undertake other tasks but must be prepared to take control of the car at any time.
The system is capable of operating in heavy traffic up to speeds of 60km/h.
Reveal of the car will be on 11 July, in Barcelona, and style cues are expected to follow those shown in the Prologue show car (pictured) shown in Los Angeles in 2014.
The new car’s structure will include steel, aluminum, magnesium and carbon fibre.
